IBA Wins Lee Kun Yew Global Business Competition 2013

Team HealthyCaps from IBA, University of Dhaka have won the 7th Lee Kun Yew Global Business Competition 2013 organized by Singapore Management University (SMU). This is the first time any Bangladeshi team have clinched this title worth USD 36,000.

Named after the Father of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who is widely recognized as a strategic thinker and a global visionary, this biennial marquee competition is organised by SMU's Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE). It aims to encourage youth excellence in enterprise and is open to all undergraduates, college and polytechnic students around the world. This year's competition is especially dedicated to honor Mr. Lee on his 90th birthday.

More than 336 tertiary students from 28 countries and regions submitted 121 business plans to the competition this year. Out of 15 selected teams to compete in the semi-final round from 9 countries, 2 were from IBA, University of Dhaka alongside teams from Wharton, Nanyang, Washington etc. And both these teams made it to the final six which was an unprecedented event in this competition's history.

The team members of the Champion team were Makame Mahmud & Rakshanda Zihan both students from BBA 19th Batch. Previously 'HealthyCaps' idea has won HSBC Young Entrepreneur Challenge 2012 Bangladesh round and secured 1st runner-up position in HSBC YDC Young Entrepreneur Challenge 2012 Asia Pacific Regionals held in Hong Kong.

Another finalist IBA team was 'GreenLock' and the team members were Syed Ashhab Zaman, Mayesha Mehnaz, Ayasha Sultana and Salwa Bakht. They are also BBA 19th batch students.
